Amanda Schlueter entered Senior Day having taken plenty of shots but having little show for them to start the season.

It took her just 44 seconds to change that.

The Ohio State senior scored twice Thursday, opening the scoring less than a minute into the match, then adding a late penalty kick as the Buckeyes defeated Princeton 4-0 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. After converting just one of her 13 shot attempts through the first three games, Schlueter’s breakthrough came on a day dedicated to celebrating her and Ohio State’s senior class.???

For Schlueter, the goal rewarded a strong start to the season in which she had repeatedly created scoring chances without consistently converting them.

Rather than change her approach, she kept trusting her position, her opportunities and her ability to finish.

“[Schlueter] always works extremely hard,” head coach Lori Walker-Hock said. “Her capacity to find that open space has been a little bit of a challenge.”??

Even when goals were not coming, Schlueter said her teammates’ confidence helped her continue to take chances.?

“We have had multiple goal scorers, so knowing that any of us can do it out there,” Schlueter said. “It helps you continue to build because we are creating multiple chances for everyone, and it’s like one of them is going to fall.”

The remaining two goals in the first half were scored by fellow senior Elle Britt and freshman Mia Stevens, who notched her first career score.?

And Schlueter was not finished.??

With less than a minute remaining, she converted a penalty kick and sealed the Buckeyes’ 4-0 win. It marked the 30th goal of her career.

Despite the numbers that will ultimately appear beside her name, Schlueter hopes her legacy at Ohio State is defined by something much bigger.??

“I hope people will remember the love and passion I have for the team. It’s not just about the stats I’m putting up there,” she said.
