Brandon Inniss named Block “O” jersey recipient, one of seven team captains

For the third time in program history, a wide receiver will represent Ohio State’s Block “O” jersey this upcoming season.?

Senior Brandon Inniss, who has played in every game the last two seasons, was selected to wear the No. 0 jersey for the Buckeyes on Saturday. In his junior campaign, Inniss recorded 36 catches, 271 receiving yards and three touchdowns.?

“Brandon is the right choice to wear the Block ‘O’ this season,” head coach Ryan Day said in a release. “It is an honor that represents much more than what a player does on the field. It represents toughness, accountability and character, and Brandon has earned the respect of everyone in our building through the way he works, prepares and serves his teammates.”

The Block “O” jersey honors defensive end Bill Willis, an All-American at Ohio State, who played for the Buckeyes from 1942-44. Willis helped break the color barrier in the NFL on the Cleveland Browns, was inducted into both the College and Pro Football Hall of Fame and has his No. 99 Ohio State jersey retired.?

With the honor, Inniss becomes the seventh Block “O” recipient in the program’s history since the tradition began in 2020.?

Former Buckeyes who were chosen to wear the No. 0 jersey were defensive end Jonathon Cooper, offensive lineman Thayer Munford, wide receivers Kamryn Babb and Xavier Johnson and linebackers Cody Simon and Sonny Styles.?

Inniss, who was a team captain last season, was also named one of Ohio State’s seven captains for the 2026 season, along with linebacker Payton Pierce, defensive end Kenyatta Jackson Jr., quarterback Julian Sayin, wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, offensive lineman Austin Siereveld and safety Jaylen McClain. This is the first time since 2020 that Ohio State has named at least seven team captains.

“He is now a two-time captain who understands what it means to wear the scarlet and gray and the responsibility that comes with this program,” Day said. “Brandon continues to grow as a leader, and he will represent the legacy of Bill Willis and everything the Block ‘O’ stands for the right way.”
