An Ohio State student died after being hit by a motorist who failed to stop at a red light and left the roadway, striking the student and another pedestrian at the corner of E. 7th Ave. and N. High St., according to the Columbus Police Department.
Sarosh Sheth was a fourth-year in neuroscience major at the university and was from Warren, spokesperson Ben Johnson stated in an email. He was 21 years old.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this extremely difficult time,” Johnson stated.
Sheth and the other pedestrian, a 52-year-old male, were hit at 2:40p.m. on Wednesday. They were taken to the Wexner Medical Center by the Columbus Fire Department in critical condition. Sheth died at the main university hospital at 3:15p.m., according to the crash report.
The condition of the second pedestrian is currently unknown.
The motorist, a 21-year-old from Mishawaka, In., was driving his Ford Mustang when he sped through the King Ave. and N. High St. intersection at a red light, according to witnesses. He then went off the road and hit Sheth and the other pedestrian. He continued into the Kroger parking lot, where he hit a parked car, which was pushed into two other unoccupied parked cars, the report stated.
The driver was arrested at the scene.
Sheth attended Warren John F. Kennedy High School before attending Ohio State, where he graduated in 2023. He was a multi-sport athlete, playing varsity soccer and kicker for his high school football team, according to the Tribune Chronicle.
The Columbus Police Accident Investigation Unit detectives responded to investigate the scene and are still investigating the crash.
